Image
Imolites have decried the level of inhumane treatment being meted on them by men of the Nigerian Police Force, Imo state Command on a daily basis. Officers of the Imo State Police Command have been accused of unlawfully maltreating citizens of the state through mishandling and forceful collection of funds from victims.   Two Imo youths came publicly on their social media pages to decry the level of inhumane treatment meted on them by men of the Nigerian police in the state. One of the victims is a presenter with one of the popular radio stations in the state, while the other is an entrepreneur who makes money through the YouTube App.   In October 2022, Young Joseph Obasi who is a presenter in Owerri, took to his Facebook page to narrate his experience in the hands of these men.   “IMO STATE IS NOT SAFE! Just in case I die tonight or in the nearest future just know that I was killed by One MR IFEANYI (dressed in red and dark in complexion) who is on duty t...

Rendering a helping hand doesn`t make the world better, it makes you better

Image
Volunteering your time, money, or energy to help others doesn't just make the world better, it also makes you better. Studies indicate that the very act of giving back to the community  boosts your happiness, health, and sense of well-being.   The future they say is pregnant and no one knows what it holds.   This aside, it is humane to render a helping hand to people around you who need help, no matter how little it may seem.   Just like the popular saying goes, all fingers are not equal as so many people in the world today can’t afford the basic necessities of life.   Some were born with silver spoons others were born with nothing, making them experience a hard life compared to their counterparts.   However, it is expedient to know that rendering a helping hand to those in need is the best thing you can do for humanity and get the fulfillment that comes with it.   The average Nigerian lives in abject poverty, lacking all social amen...

Media Commercialization

It is not out of place for the media to be commercialized. As commercialization is the intentional policy of increasing the monetary activities of the media in order to reduce their dependence on government or any individual. In media commercialization the sole aim is to generate money 💰/ revenue for the establishment as services offered free of charge are no paid for. In living up to the main purpose of a broadcast station, the management of a broadcast station might have challenges running it as a profit outlet. This is where Ethics of professionalisms sets in, you don’t turn a blind eyes to news and occurrences because it is against the government or someone who sponsors the organization. Commercialization of the media was or is done to enable the media be independent and have the power to speak their mind at anytime. The Media as a business, and as the people’s voice, finding the balance.

The media has the sole aim of disseminating information, sharing ideas and creating awareness. However, it is not out of place to say the media is a business through which revenues are generated for it’s owners. Media owners create contents with professional editors and writers, publish it periodically for the sole aim of making profit. In other words, income/revenue generation is one of the reasons media houses are established apart from its watchdog role. Nevertheless, the quest to generate income for the media, should not overshadow it’s other functions, this is where a call for finding balance sets in. In as much as a media house should and is meant to generate income for the proper running of it’s affairs, it shouldn’t do so such in the expense of Justice. The media shouldn’t engage in Ox grounding , libel or slander, favoritisms or collection of brown envelopes, to speak or write against someone. The media is seen as a watchdog, regarded as the fourth estate of the realm and as...

When we say “Thank You”

How do you feel when you are celebrated or appreciated by your boss, parents, friends, wife, husband, children  or even strangers for a work well done? I know right🥰 All joy and eager to do more right? Because you love the feelings that comes with being celebrated. This is exactly how everyone feels when appreciated,we should learn to appreciate people especially when they are still alive. In our country and systems ,it seems people are often celebrated when they are no more. During Funerals you will see a long note describing how good a person was, meanwhile in the persons lifetime, no appreciation or appreciative gesture has ever been shown. People live with the mentality that they are not enough or are not doing enough. What does it take to say “Thank you” “Weldon” “You did well” “God bless you”. Funny enough as simple as those words seem, some people find it difficult to say them. What is life without kind words and gestures? Make it a habit to appreciate someone everyday. Be it y...
