Young people and relationships

Image
The rate at which young people find so much pleasure/joy in having a partner, ie, having the status "in a relationship" is so worrisome. It is common amongst young people to say things like (My boyfriend said, my boyfriend did, my babe said, my girlfriend said) and all talks like that. The few ones who have no one to refer to as "babe" or any sweet them they call each other these days are seen as outcasts.  These trends and moral decay have led young boys and girls into relationships they are not ready for, and as such suffer the consequences of lack of preparedness. Some of these relationships hit the rock within months they venture into it, as a result of misconceptions of what a relationship is all about. In these relationships, we see these young men acting as Dad early, as they are the ones to provide for their partner's needs and wants and anyone who is not able to provide such is seen as unready to be in a relationship. While the ladies are forced to act...

Financial Independence: Women and Society’s Notion

Image
There is this belief in Africa, more especially in Nigeria that when a man becomes rich, he goes for a woman, but when a woman/Lady becomes rich, she feels she doesn`t need a man.   And this has brought about the opinion that women don`t respect men when they (women) are rich. However, some men refuse to marry rich women with the mindset that "she won`t respect me, because she`s richer"   This has led most men to prefer marrying women who are a bit under them financially, with the opinion that they can control them (as rich women are difficult to control).   Most people believe that independent women are too difficult to control and may not make good Moms and Wives to their husbands and their kids.   First, I want us to understand that women are goal getters, when a woman puts her heart to make or mar anything, she does it effortlessly.    If a woman is into any other career, she makes sure she gives in her best and can go to any length...

YOUNG PEOPLE: CHALLENGES AND SOCIAL VICES

In Nigeria and other African countries, young people are faced with challenges that affect their mental health on a daily basis. As a result of poverty and other economic factors affecting the continent, mental health issues, toxic work environment, societal pressure are some of those things young people are faced with on a daily basis. There are so many challenges facing a young African on a daily basis, ranging from feeding to clothing, shelter and other necessities. A good number of the African population live in abject poverty and find it difficult to feed, have a proper shelter, and wear good clothes. These and many more are the issues that affect our young people daily and pose as a toll to their mental health. In the light of this, most young people are the bread winners of their families, as they are looked upon to carter for their loved ones despite how little they earn. At age 14 or even 13, most young people are hustling to make sure there is food on the ta...

Sit at Home Order: South East Nigeria

Image
In southeastern Nigeria, which comprises Enugu, Imo, Ebonyi, Abia, and Anambra, there is an agitation for a referendum. This is pioneered by a group known as the Indigenous people of Biafra. This group was headed by a man known as Nnamdi Kanu who was also the director of a United Kingdom-registered radio station named Radio Biafra; the station was used to propagate the Biafran referendum. Kanu was arrested on treason charges in Lagos, Nigeria on 14 October 2015 and was detained for more than a year. Various court orders ruled for his release, but none was taken into action, which provoked his supporter to agitate for his release, giving birth to the “sit at home order” Every Monday of the week, all inhabitants of the 5 eastern states mentioned above are expected to stay at home, no school, no work, no business, and no market. For the members of the Indigenous people of Biafra, this is a way to show their grief over the unlawful detention of their boss and not heeding ...
