Ike Odoeme Foundation Celebrates International Women’s Day 2025, Advocates for Education and Technology in Women’s Empowerment

The journey to gender equality is long and challenging, yet every step forward brings society closer to balance.

In commemoration of International Women’s Day 2025, the Ike Odoeme Foundation took bold strides in addressing critical issues affecting women through a well-attended event themed Accelerate Action, with a focus on Empowering Women in Education and Technology.

Held in Imo State today, the event brought together notable dignitaries, policymakers, and advocates for women's empowerment.

Among the distinguished speakers were the Honorable Commissioner for Tertiary and Technical Education in Imo State, Prof. Victor Nwachukwu, Dr. Fatima Ijeoma Emetuma (FOWAN), Mrs. Blessing Okorie, Prof. K.O. Nworgu, Dr. Dorathy Nnaji, CP Aboki Danjuma (ably represented), and Rt. Hon. Uju Onwudiwe.

Representatives from the offices of the Imo State Deputy Governor and the Commissioner of Police were also in attendance.

The Ike Odoeme Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organization dedicated to advancing the lives of women, continues to play a pivotal role in creating opportunities for women across all demographics, young, old, educated, uneducated, able-bodied, and differently-abled.

The foundation’s vision is to build a society where every woman has the resources, support, and opportunities to reach her full potential.

Through programs that focus on education, healthcare, economic empowerment, and community development, the foundation has consistently championed women's rights and progress.

In her opening speech, the Founder of the Ike Odoeme Foundation, Sylvie Marie, reaffirmed the organization’s unwavering dedication to women’s empowerment.

She highlighted past initiatives, including Project Mount, which allocated ₦50 million to support women across Nigeria.

Other programs have focused on healthcare, education, and skill development, reinforcing the foundation’s belief that empowered women are key drivers of societal growth.

Education remains a powerful tool in the fight for gender equality.

Prof. Victor Nwachukwu, one of the keynote speakers, emphasized its transformative power, stating, “A literate woman is a blessing, not just to her family, but to an entire generation.”

He stressed that women's full participation in politics, leadership, and decision-making is crucial to national development.

Dr. Fatima Ijeoma Emetuma (FOWAN) expanded on the role of women in social and economic development, advocating for systemic changes, mentorship programs, and policy reforms that promote equal opportunities.

Similarly, Prof. K.O. Nworgu called for a balanced approach to gender discussions, distinguishing between gender equality and extreme feminism, while urging men and women to work together toward a more inclusive society.

Beyond the speeches, the Ike Odoeme Foundation demonstrated its commitment to real change by awarding financial grants to selected women to support their businesses.

These grants are part of the foundation’s broader initiative to uplift women in various sectors, ensuring they have the resources needed to thrive.

The event was more than just a celebration of International Women’s Day, it was a call to action, an urgent appeal for society to move beyond rhetoric and implement real, tangible solutions to bridge the gender gap.

With education and technology at the forefront, the Ike Odoeme Foundation continues to lead the charge in empowering women and accelerating action toward a more equitable future.
