Ike Odoeme Foundation Celebrates International Women's Day, Calls for Action in Education and Technology

The journey to gender equality is long and arduous, yet every step counts.

As the world marked International Women’s Day 2025 today, the Ike Odoeme Foundation took bold steps toward addressing key issues affecting women through a well-attended event with the theme Accelerate Action.

The focus was on empowering women through education and technology, two critical tools for bridging the gender gap.

Women, who make up nearly half of the world’s population, continue to face obstacles ranging from gender-based violence to underrepresentation in leadership.

The Ike Odoeme Foundation, is a Non-Governmental Organization that is committed to empowering women across all walks of life, young, old, educated, uneducated, able bodied and different bodied.

It's vision is to create a society where every woman has the opportunity, resources, and support to reach her full potential.

The Honorable Commissioner for Tertiary and Technical Education in Imo State, Prof. Victor Nwachukwu, who is one of the event’s keynote speaker, stressed that education remains the most effective tool for equipping women to take charge of their lives and contribute meaningfully to society. "A literate woman is a blessing, not just to her family, but to an entire generation," he stated.

Dr. Fatima Ijeoma Emetuma (FOWAN) further expanded on women’s role in social development, calling for systemic changes, mentorship programs, and policy reforms that promote equal opportunities.

Meanwhile, Prof. K.O. Nworgu highlighted the need to differentiate between gender equality and extreme feminism, urging both men and women to work together toward a balanced society.

Beyond speeches, the Ike Odoeme Foundation translated words into action.

Grants were awarded to women to support their businesses, and the foundation reaffirmed its commitment to initiatives that uplift women in all spheres.

The event was not just a celebration but a call to action, one that challenges society to move beyond rhetoric and implement real solutions for women’s empowerment.
