International Day of the Girl Child: Invest in girls and invest in the future

Each year on October 11, the world comes together to observe the International Day of the Girl Child—an essential day dedicated to raising awareness of the struggles faced by girls around the globe, as well as celebrating their immense potential. This year’s theme, "Invest in Girls’ Rights: Our Leadership, Our Well-being, Our Future", underscores the critical role girls play in shaping a better future for all.
We celebrate this day to highlight the unique challenges girls face simply because of their gender. Across many parts of the world, girls still suffer from systemic barriers such as limited access to quality education, healthcare, and opportunities to lead. Gender-based violence, child marriage, and societal discrimination continue to threaten their rights and well-being.

The International Day of the Girl Child serves as a reminder that every girl, regardless of her background, deserves a life free from inequality, fear, and oppression. It is also a call to action for communities, governments, and international organizations to prioritize the rights of girls, ensuring they are safe, educated, and empowered to lead.

Despite significant strides in recent years, many of these issues persist.   The federal government's vision to establish a well-coordinated and regulated drug distribution system across Nigeria is one of the most vital reforms in our healthcare sector.  Designed to eliminate the chaos of open drug markets and improve public health outcomes, the Coordinated Wholesale Center (CWC) project was meant to bring order, safety, and accountability into the pharmaceutical supply chain.
