THE ROLE OF THE NIGERIAN YOUTH IN THE EMERGENCE OF A NEW NIGERIA

Before I go ahead to outline the role of a Nigerian youth in the emergence of a new Nigeria, I would like us to get what youth means.

According to the oxford advanced dictionary, youth is the time of life when one is young.

It is also defined as “the appearance of freshness, vigor, spirit, etc., a role is a comprehensive pattern of behavior that is societally recognized, providing a means of identifying and placing an individual in a society.

However, what is the role of a Nigerian youth in the EMERGENCE OF A NEW NIGERIA? A youth generally is expected to renew, refresh, and maintain.

Youth is the backbone of any society/nation, Youth can play an important role in the development of society.

In the emergence of a new Nigeria, the youth is expected to be patriotic.

when we talk about patriotism, we are saying the youth should be law-abiding, obey the rules and regulations that govern the nation-state, and most importantly be ready to exercise their franchise.

They should vote or be voted for during election, not as a result of fear or favor of anyone, but out of obligation and loyalty to the nation-state.

So many young Nigerians (who eventually level up as the youths) see politics as a dirty game that is meant for the grey heads or maybe those ready to die anytime soon.

The fear of politics being a do-or-die affair has eaten up the youths thereby causing them to engage in political apartheid.

Just as the global world is evolving, Nigeria is expected to follow suit by giving the younger generation the opportunity to govern as well as be governed in a democratic system of government.

Youths shy away from the political position, and administrative positions with the excuse that they are too young to run, in their youth are potential, talents, leadership skills, knowledge, and administrative prowess.
