Zamfara state government allows its citizens to carry ammunition in self-defense, a welcome development or nay?

The Governor of Zamfara State, a state in the Northwestern region of Nigeria, has passed a bill that will allow its citizens to carry ammunition in self-defense against the banditry attack in the state.

Amid the uproar over his call for residents to arm themselves in defense against raging banditry, the Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle, yesterday, signed into law a bill for the prohibition and punishment for banditry, cattle rustling, cultism, kidnapping, terrorism, and other incidental offenses 2022.

The executive bill was sent to the House of Assembly a few weeks ago. The bill is part of the state government’s new measures to stem the tide of banditry, kidnapping, and cattle rustling that have bedeviled the state for over a decade.

What is your take on these? A welcome development or nay?
