Niger Republic crisis: A message to our leaders
A few weeks back in Niger Republic, soldiers from the Presidential Guard deposed President Mohamed Bazoum as a democratically elected leader and installed a military head of state on July 26, 2023. They stated the reason for their action to be the deteriorating security situation and bad governance in the Nation-state since Bazoum took over power. Reacting to this news making rounds all over the world now, the coup plotters warned against any foreign interference in their country, saying that they decided to put an end to the regime of President Bazoum, owing to the country’s deteriorating security situation and bad governance. However, the new military junta closed down the country’s borders, imposed a nationwide curfew, and suspended all institutions of the republic. Nevertheless, this action shows that the people are the owners of power. Power doesn’t belong to the government as proposed by them; power truly belongs to the people.
